1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?\ - I expected to do a lot of online exploring, projects, quizzes, and discussions and they were met. 2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting? -Art can be described in a number of ways.   There is no set definition in my opinion because anyone could have the ability to create something .  Art can also be a number of things such as film, poetry, and music, not just paintings or drawings. 3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so? -My favorite artist before was Dali and it still is.  Although I don't agree with his political views, his artwork is incredible.  I love his surrealistic work and how connects that to real world problems. 4. Now that you've co...
1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art talks about the influence that politics and war had on pop art through the use of  comic books, B-movies, rock ’n’ roll, surfing, hot rods, and Cold War imagery. *Tate Modern video was not available* An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan Museum of Art talks about Montebello who demanded innovation in conservation techniques. 2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not. The videos do not relate to the creation of my Art Exhibition project because the videos talk specifically about a movement and the conservation of art works where as I picked a theme to my project and found pictures that related to my theme. 3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project? The films were reall...
The project was fun.  It was great learning about different paintings that clicked with my theme.  Being a curator for this project meant control and authority over what I wanted to do for this project and it was great experiencing a challenge of what would happen in a museum.

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above. -I have always found Picasso and Matisse because they were such amazing artists especially the way they did their figures. Dada and Surrealism was also as unique as the two artists because it followed its own creative rules. 2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text? -They talk about the artists and movements that were really big and what they did to change art during that time period. 4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts? -The films are always better because the readings don't go into depth as much as the films do....

1. Include the analysis and description (art criticism steps) of the three (3) inspiration pieces. -1. The mask is made of wood.  It is also very elongated where the nose is.  It carries small features in the eyes, base of the nose, mouth, and ears.  It gives off a very surprising appearance as the eyebrows curve over the eyes helping create the long faced look.   2. This mask is made of stone and is believed to be one of the first masks made.  It is very simple, most likely smooth.  The features are very open around the eyes and mouth.  There is also a small detail above the eyes, possibly a mark meaning eyebrows, a headband, or a hairline.  3. These masks use a lot more color than the last two described.  Yellow is the main color although because it is Winter, the cheeks and chin are red to show a rosy color, typical skin color change during this season from the cold.  Also depicting a wintery season, they have raccoon "ta...
1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above. -I personally selected the Islamic Art at the V&A and Islamic Art: Africa and Central Asia because one of my roommates recently became Islamic and I became curious about his religion.  I thought watching these videos about their culture in art would be a great  way to learn because it tells a lot about their history and who they are. 2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. -The Mosques are incredibly important.  It's a place of prayer and the way they built it was to show the elegance and beauty of it while also showing how simple it is.  There is lots of poetic influence in their culture as well.  It is in their pottery, books, and rugs.  The pottery shows lots of visual images that reference poetic stories.  In their books, especially the Koran, they developed a sort of science behind their creation of it.  Their are...

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing? It was incredibly easy because I'm used to doing a lot more.   2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why? Charcoal- I think it's better than pencil and fun to use.  I also like the way charcoal can spread onto paper.   3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand? It was funny and kind of hard.  It was difficult to make my left hand and brain coordinate together properly to create a drawing but it was fun to experiment.   4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies? I think so.  I thought I would do much worse drawing with my left hand but surprisingly it came out okay.    5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future? Absolutely not.  It's too much work trying to think and coordinate my left hand and brain. That would take a ...

Module 7: Architecture

Architecture: The Science of Design 1. List/discuss the key concepts you learned. The key concepts that I learned are that there are many different factors that go into large buildings architecture than you would think. I learned how big of a factor wind can be on tall buildings rather than all of the people and furniture inside of it. I also learned how smart homes are actually feasible and how they work and it led me to believe that this might become more common in our lifetime. Lastly I learned about a key concept of concrete and the properties that lie within it and how it is manipulated to create architecture all over the world. 2. How did the video relate to the readings in the text? This video relates to the steel frame construction part of the text where it explains how large buildings today are built like a true skeleton and skin arrangement. Rather than putting floor on floor on floor the builders first erect a steel cage that is capable of sustaining the entire weig...

1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting. - Color can influence a person's mental state depending on if they were warm colors or cool colors.  They can make a person feel comfort, anger, calmness or sadness. 2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why? -I think it is incredible if someone walked into a room they could be immediately effected by the colors on the wall.  For instance, when some parents first have a baby they may paint the walls in the baby's room yellow because the emotions that register from this are happy and friendly. 3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions? -Each picture done had a contract with it that stated the amount of pigments to use.  One in particular was known as ultra blue.  This came from Afghanistan and took up to 3 weeks to make.  The incredibly vibrant...

Which philosopher's theroy on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosphers name, er...
